Jonathan David is going to be one of the more sought-after players in the summer transfer window as many European clubs are showing interest in the Canadian striker.
Davide Stoppini of La Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy reported that Serie A club Inter Milan has shown interest in adding David with Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez potentially departing in the summer.
The 22-year-old has been linked to many teams, including Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, AC Milan, Barcelona and Arsenal. His agent, Nick Mavromaras, confirmed in an interview with Radio Canada that this was going to be David’s final season with Lille in Ligue 1.
“For us, the objective is to finish the season in Lille, but it will be his last season there for several reasons,” Mavromaras explained at the time. “I think the Premier League is a great option for him. I think he likes Spain a lot too because he likes the feel of the ball and the very technical players. These two leagues are a big priority for him, but we are not ruling anything out. You never know, with Paris Saint-Germain or the big Italian clubs.”
According to Transfermarkt, David’s market value for a transfer is $55 million USD/€50 million, making him the second-most valuable Canadian, behind Alphonso Davies. He originally joined Lille on a club-record €27 million transfer after two strong seasons with KAA Gent of the Belgian league.
Since his move to the French league, David has scored 29 goals in 80 appearances and, in 27 appearances with Canada, he has 20 goals and 10 assists.
For the Nerazzurri, the Milan Derby looks to be extending off the pitch with AC Milan also eyeing the Canadian striker. In the event that they cannot get David, Inter is looking to see what happens with Paulo Dybala and Juventus as the Argentinean forward does not have a deal for next season and could be available as a free transfer this summer.
Lille and David will be playing Chelsea in the UEFA’s Champion Round of 16 on Feb. 22. The French club has struggled this season, sitting 10th in Ligue 1 after beating out PSG for the league title last season.
