Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore could be on the move before the January transfer window closes as the striker no longer wants to play in Toronto, according to ESPN's Jeff Carlisle.
The desire for a move reportedly stems from Altidore's relationship with the club and GM Ali Curtis – which has "reached a breaking point" – and over his current contract.
U.S. men's national team manager Gregg Berhalter stated Saturday that "a number of clubs" are interested in Altidore and he has been ruled out of the U.S. friendly versus Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday with an injury and possible transfer looming. Carlisle reported that an unknown Liga MX club had expressed interest in the American striker.
Altidore has tweeted "Don’t believe everything you read. The devil is working overtime" since the report surfaced.
Altidore signed a three-year extension with TFC in 2019 with the contract running until 2022. The 31-year-old earns more than $6 million in annual guaranteed compensation and occupies one of the team's two designated player slots along with Alejandro Pozuelo.
The U.S. international has scored 58 goals in 123 regular-season games with TFC across five seasons. He also converted the winning goal in the 2017 MLS Cup Final to clinch Toronto's first-ever league title.
