Christine Sinclair, the world's all-time leading goal scorer, said goodbye to a home crowd for the final time as a national team player on Tuesday night at the renamed Christine Sinclair Place in Vancouver.
Over two decades and 190 international goals later, the moment finally came in the second of two friendlies at B.C. Place against Australia.
Sinclair's list of accomplishments while representing Canada is hard to fit on one page. She is a three-time Olympic medalist (two bronze and one gold in 2020), has been named Canada Soccer's female player of the year 14 times, and in 2022 she was recognized by FIFA with a special award for breaking the all-time goal scoring record.
The 40-year-old still plans on playing one more season with the NWSL's Portland Thorns FC, but her time with Canada has come to an end.
As Sinclair took to the pitch for the final time wearing the Maple Leafs, Canadians around the country and beyond took to social media to share their admiration for her.
