In case you haven't noticed, Canada has more than arrived on the global stage. They've thrived.
Matched up with a tough and young Venezuela team, who went 3-0 in the first round, Canada took an early lead with Jacob Shaffelburg's goal in the 13th minute. And even after Venezuela evened the score by catching goalie Maxime Crépeau a bit too far out of his net, Les Rouges responded in penalties.
Jonathan David, Moïse Bombito and Alphonso Davies each answered a Venezuela goal by finding the back of the net themselves, and as soon as the match was up for grabs, Ismaël Koné buried his penalty to send Canada to the Copa America semifinals.
Already the first nation to advance to the knockout stage in its first Copa America, Canada continued to make history with Friday's dramatic win.
Once Koné's goal settled itself behind Venezuela goalie Wuilker Faríñez, the sports world took to social media to celebrate the upset.
