Toronto FC has a new general manager.
The club promoted former defender Jason Hernandez to the role on Tuesday.
The 2023-24 season will be Hernandez’s fifth with TFC’s front office. The 39-year-old was first hired as a manager of player engagement after his retirement in 2019 and has spent the past two seasons with the team as an assistant general manager.
Hernandez played two of his 14-year MLS career in Toronto, helping the club take home the MLS Cup, the Supporters' Shield and the Canadian Championship. Before signing with TFC in 2017, Hernandez was selected sixth overall by the MetroStars in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft and played eight seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes.
"I've seen first-hand Jason's transition from playing at TFC to joining the front office," said the club’s President, Bill Manning, in a team release. "His growth as an executive has been exceptional, and he is ready for this next step in his career. Jason is very knowledgeable of MLS and is well respected around the league. I believe his future is bright with TFC."
The team fired coach and sporting director Bob Bradley on Monday. Toronto's previous general manager, Ali Curtis, left the club in Nov. 2021 to take up the senior vice-president of competition and operations role for MLS NEXT Pro.
