BARCELONA, Spain — Barcelona says its Dutch international midfielder Ibrahim Afellay has torn a ligament in his left knee and will undergo surgery on Friday.
The Spanish champions said late Thursday that he picked up the injury during a training session. Club doctors did not indicate how long he will be sidelined.
The 25-year-old Afellay had only played twice this season after recovering from a torn muscle during the preseason.
He had been expected to help fill in for the injured Alexis Sanchez.
