Cavalry FC signs CPL-U Sports draft pick Joel Waterman

Jim Brennan talks to James Sharman about building his York 9 squad for the new Canadian Premier League and the unique chance he has to start with a blank slate.

Calgary’s Cavalry FC has signed Trinity Western University midfielder Joel Waterman.

The Canadian Premier League club took Waterman with its second-round pick of CPL-U Sports draft.

The B.C. native, originally from Aldergrove, B.C., and raised in Langley, played for the PDL Kitsap Pumas, TSS Rovers, and Foothills FC. He finished fourth at the 2018 national championship with Trinity Western.

The 23-year-old Waterman was a Canada West first-team all-star.

The CPL is set to kick off its inaugural season on April 27.

HFX WANDERERS SIGN TWO

Halifax’s HFX Wanderers FC have added two more Canadians to their Canadian Premier League roster.

The newcomers are 20-year-old defenders Ndzemdzela Langwa and Chrisnovic N’sa.

Langwa, a left back from Ottawa, previously played with Italy’s Triestina and Palmese and Spain’s UD Socuellamos.

N’sa, a centre back from Montreal, is signing his first pro contract after an under-19 season at the U-19 with the Montreal Impact academy.

Wanderers now have 11 players under contract, seven of whom are Canadian.
