SEVILLE, Spain — Sevilla striker Frederic Kanoute has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a leg injury, possibly signalling the end of his career.
Kanoute hurt a muscle in his right leg in Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Athletic Bilbao and will be sidelined five to six weeks.
The 34-year-old Kanoute signed a one-year contract extension to remain at Sevilla this season but is expected to leave at the end of his current deal. He has scored three goals in 23 league appearances this season.
Kanoute helped Sevilla win two UEFA Cup titles and two Copa del Rey titles, plus one European Super Cup, since joining from Tottenham in 2005.
