FREIBURG, Germany — Freiburg has signed forward Mike Hanke on a free transfer from Bundesliga rival Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Freiburg says the 29-year-old Hanke signed a deal on Friday morning after a medical check-up. It does not give the length of the contract.

Hanke played 2 1/2 seasons at Moenchengladbach, scoring 13 goals in 77 Bundesliga games. He previously played for Schalke, Wolfsburg and Hannover, making 269 league appearances.

Hanke made 12 appearances for Germany, but has found it hard to break into the national team in recent years.

Freiburg finished fifth in the Bundesliga and will play in the Europa League next season.
