After taking the field for one match with his new club, Thiago Alcantara has been sidelined temporarily after testing positive for COVID-19.
Liverpool announced the test result Tuesday, adding that the midfielder has “exhibited minor symptoms” but is currently self-isolating and recovering.
After seven seasons with the Bundesliga’s Bayern Munich and La Liga’s Barcelona, Thiago joined the reigning Premier League champions earlier this month.
He made his first appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sept. 20, coming in for Jordan Henderson just after half-time and helping guide the team to a 2-0 win over Chelsea.
The 29-year-old missed Liverpool’s match against Arsenal on Monday, a 3-1 win at Anfield.
