EINDHOVEN, Netherlands — Manchester United defender Luke Shaw broke his right leg in two places in a Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday.

The England left back was hurt in a challenge by PSV defender Hector Moreno in the 15th minute and required oxygen as he was being taken off the field on a stretcher, following a delay of about eight minutes.

"Our thoughts go out to Luke Shaw, who has suffered a double fracture of the leg," United said on its official Twitter feed. "He will have an operation on his return to Manchester."

Shaw has been in good form this season, after his first year at United was hampered by injury. He was signed from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for reportedly for more than 27 million pounds ($46 million), making him the world’s most expensive teenager at the time.
