MLS to hold dispersal draft of Chivas USA players

NEW YORK — Major League Soccer will conduct a dispersal draft on Nov. 19 for the players on defunct Chivas USA.

The league said Friday it will hold a weighted draw on Nov. 14 to determine the draft order. Each team that made the playoffs will be in one envelope, while teams that missed the playoffs will be in two envelopes each along with New York City FC and Orlando City SC, which start play next season.

MLS plans to replace Chivas USA with a Los Angeles expansion team for the 2017 season.

Chivas USA played in Carson, California, before folding last week after 10 troubled and unsuccessful years in Major League Soccer.
