Canadian midfielder Janine Beckie has a new NWSL club to call home.
The Portland Thorns traded Beckie to Racing Louisville FC on Wednesday in exchange for forward Reilyn Turner, the clubs announced.
“We are incredibly grateful for the time Janine spent with us in Portland, from the moment she arrived she fully embraced what it means to be a member of this club and this community,” Portland Thorns general manager and president of soccer operations Karina LeBlanc said in a team-released statement. “Not only is Janine a top player, but she’s a top human who makes everyone around her better. Her impact to this club and this city will not be forgotten. We wish her nothing but the best and look forward to seeing what she does in Louisville.”
Beckie, who joined the Thorns from Manchester City in 2022, recorded three goals and four assists over 35 games in Portland. She missed the entire 2023 season with an ACL injury.
The 30-year-old forward has capped 107 times for Canada’s women’s national team on the international stage and has 36 goals for the Great White North.
Canadian legend Christine Sinclair was teammates with Beckie during her time on the Thorns. Sinclair has two goals for Portland this season.
