The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group is expected to announce that the Ottawa Fury will suspend operations on Friday, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

Should that be the topic of the press conference, it will come almost a year after the club was in hot water with Concacaf, who refused to sanction Fury FC as the governing body tried to pressure them into joining the Canadian Premier League. The team eventually got its sanction after an appeal and stayed in the USL.

The Fury played its inaugural season in the NASL in 2014. They won the Fall championship in 2015 before losing to the New York Cosmos in the Soccer Bowl that same year.

The Fury moved to the USL prior to the 2017 season and have been in the league ever since. They finished in eighth place in the USL’s Eastern Conference in 2019 with a record of 14-10-10. Head coach Nikola Popovic was relieved of his duties after the campaign.
