FIFA has postponed a World Cup qualifying game between Scotland and Ukraine until June, and Poland has been given a bye because of Russia’s invasion, the sanctioning body announced on Tuesday.
Scotland and Ukraine were scheduled to meet in a playoff semifinal on March 24 in Scotland, with the winner facing the winner of a match between Austria and Wales – which will remain as scheduled, on March 24 – on March 29 for a spot in the World Cup.
ESPN says almost all of Ukraine’s players remain in the country.
FIFA also announced Poland will be given a bye to the Path B final, where they will play either Sweden or Czech Republic.
Russia’s World Cup qualifying bid also is up in the air with FIFA suspending the country’s participation from all events. Russia has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport ahead of a March 24 qualifying game against Poland.
The 2022 World Cup draw is scheduled to take place April 1.
