VALENCIA, Spain — Football great Alfredo Di Stefano has been released from hospital following a routine checkup of his heart condition.
The Argentine-born Di Stefano was admitted on Tuesday to Valencia’s La Fe hospital. In 2005, he received a pacemaker at the facility after suffering a myocardial infarction.
The 86-year-old Di Stefano is a former forward for Real Madrid and an honorary president of the Spanish club.
Known as “La Saeta Rubia” — “The blonde arrow” — for his fast attacking runs, Di Stefano was voted European player of the year in 1957 and 1959.
