Totti becomes oldest scorer in Champions League

AS Roma's Francesco Totti chipped the ball over Joe Hart to become the oldest goal-scorer in Champions League history.

MANCHESTER, England — Francesco Totti became the oldest player to score a goal in the Champions League when the 38-year-old Italian equalized for Roma against Manchester City on Tuesday.

Totti broke the record held by former Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs, who was 37 years and nine months when he scored against Benfica in September 2011.

Totti turned 38 on Saturday.

The former Italy forward ran onto a pass from Radja Nainggolan and clipped a superb finish over City goalkeeper Joe Hart in the 23rd minute at Etihad Stadium. It was the first time Totti has scored in England.

The goal made it 1-1 in the Group E game.
