Trinidad and Tobago ties El Salvador

HARRISON, N.J. — Kenwyne Jones scored in the 72nd minute to give Trinidad and Tobago a 2-2 draw with El Salvador in the first round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Monday night.

Jones got in the box and beat Dagoberto Portillo with a crossed shot to tie the game.

Rodolfo Zelaya scored twice for El Salvador. His goal in the 68th minute on a header had given El Salvador a 2-1 lead. Zelaya also scored in the 21st minute on a free kick. He put his shot over the wall and into the net to tie the game at 1.

Keon Kelly Daniel gave Trinidad and Tobago a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 10th minute. Daniel took advantage of a loose ball after some confusion on El Salvador’s defence. Daniel made a run to the goal and was able to beat Portillo with a low shot to the post.

Trinidad and Tobago and El Salvador are in Group B with Haiti and Honduras. Trinidad and Tobago will play Haiti in its next match and Honduras will face El Salvador. Both matches will be Friday in Miami.
