Though he’s only in his second season with MLS’ D.C. United, English star Wayne Rooney has already notched his fair share of historic tallies in the North American league.
On Wednesday, the 33-year-old added another incredible highlight to his reel, connecting on an absurd goal from well inside his own half in a match against Orlando City SC:
The strike gave Rooney his ninth goal of the 2019 campaign, moving him closer to Atlanta’s Josef Martinez, who sits third in the league with 10. LAFC’s Carlos Vela currently leads MLS with 16 goals to his name, while LA Galaxy’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic sits second with 11.
It’s the second time Rooney has flashed his all-world skill against Orlando. Last year, in Rooney’s debut MLS season, the former Manchester United and Everton star clinched a 3-2 victory for his side with a sensational play that saw him race to steal the ball in his own end before turning around and setting up a stunning stoppage-time winner.
Safe to say Father Time hasn’t claimed the Englishman’s elite touch just yet.
