‘We believe’: Sports world thrilled as Canada moves on at Copa America

Against all odds, Canada is through to the knockout stages at the 2024 Copa America.

Pitted against three South American countries, the Canadian Men’s National Team went 1-1-1 in Group A, punching its ticket to the quarterfinals with a draw against Chile on Saturday night.

With the draw and subsequent quarterfinal-berth, Canada becomes the first team since 2001 to advance out of the group stage in its first Copa America appearance.

Not only did Canada move on, but it knocked Chile out of the tournament before the knockout stage for the first time since 2004.

After the final whistle blew, Canadians and soccer fans alike took to social media to salute Jesse Marsch and Co. after the most significant result in the country’s history on the pitch.
