VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Whitecaps have acquired midfielder Jordon Mutch on a one-year loan with an option to purchase from English Premier League team Crystal Palace.

Later in the day, the Whitecaps also traded defender Tim Parker to the New York Red Bulls in exchange for Brazilian midfielder Felipe, an international roster spot, and $500,000 worth of Targeted Allocation Money.

Mutch, 26, will be added to Vancouver’s roster pending receipt of his international transfer certificate, Canadian work permit and visa.

Mutch, who represented England internationally at the youth levels, has spent his 10-year career to date in the United Kinddom and has 17 goals and 26 assists in 206 matches in all competitions with Birmingham City, Watford, Cardiff City, Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace.

He helped Cardiff reach the Premier League for the first time in club history and recorded seven goals and six assists in 35 Premier League appearances with the Welsh club.

“Jordon is a top midfielder who has played at the highest level,” Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said in a statement. “He’s played against the Chelseas, Arsenals, and Manchester Uniteds and now he wants to prove himself again in a new environment. He likes to get forward, he’s full of energy, and he’s in the prime of his career. We’re delighted to have him here.”
