Denis Shapovalov's grass-court season got off to a rough start as the Canadian lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to qualifier Marton Fucsovics of Hungary in the first round of the Boss Open in Stuttgart, Germany on Tuesday.
Shapolvalov, ranked 29th in the world, is now 1-2 for his career against the world No. 86.
The product of Richmond Hill, Ont., was coming off a run to the third round at the French Open.
Shapovalov was the only Canadian in the field for the ATP Tour 500 event.
