The Year-Round Community Tennis Courts Program is set for its biggest year in 2024.
Rogers and Tennis Canada announced Tuesday that six municipalities have been selected to receive a total of $1.2 million in funding for covered tennis courts.
Facilities in Niagara Falls, Ont., Mississauga, Ont., St. Catharines, Ont., Chatham-Kent, Ont., and Ile-Bizard, Que. were confirmed Tuesday. An additional location in British Columbia will be announced in the coming weeks.
The program, in its third year, will have 14 projects either ongoing or completed by the end of the year.
A total of 22 year-round courts will be worked on in 2024.
By the end of the year, the total number of year-round tennis courts created by the program will reach over 60 – more than 35 per cent of the program’s goal of 160.
“It’s tremendous to see this program continue to flourish as we work towards our goal of making tennis more accessible to Canadians across the country,” said Gavin Ziv, chief executive officer of Tennis Canada. “This year, our portfolio has increased from four to six facilities, as we continue to prioritize the construction of more year-round tennis courts through the acceleration of our capacity building efforts."
“We’re pleased to partner with Tennis Canada to help grow the game of tennis across Canada,” said Terrie Tweddle, chief brand and communications officer for Rogers. “Through these new year-round courts, we're helping to make tennis more accessible to more Canadians."
