Canada’s Dabrowski wins National Bank Open women’s doubles title with Stefani

Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Brazil’s Luisa Stefani won the National Bank Open women’s doubles title.

Dabrowski and Stefani defeated Croatia’s Darija Jurak and Slovenia’s Andreja Klepac of Slovenia, 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday’s final in Montreal.

The Ottawa native Dabrowski, who has now captured 10 women’s doubles titles, became the first Canadian to win a doubles championship in the event since Daniel Nestor in 2008.

“We’re really happy. It was so nice to play in front of Canadian tennis fans,” Dabrowski said in a Tennis Canada media release. “Overall, it’s great. I’m really proud of our performance this week. It’s not always easy to come here. There are different pressures involved. I’m really happy that we were able to play even better than we did last week. We’re just building going forward.”

The tournament was a special one for Dabrowski, who hails from Ottawa and had her parents in the stands. It was the first time she’d seen them in person since November 2019.

“It was lovely to have them there and nice to share a win with them,” she said with a smile.
