TOKYO — Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic overpowered China’s Zhang Shuai 6-3, 6-0 on Saturday to reach the final of the Japan Open.
Bidding for her first WTA singles title, Siniakova converted all seven of her break point opportunities to dispatch sixth-seed Zhang.
Siniakova will face seventh-seeded Christina McHale of the United States in Sunday’s final at Ariake Colosseum.
McHale beat Jana Cepelova of Slovakia 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, hitting 10 aces and securing the win when she broke Cepelova in the final game.
McHale will also be seeking her first singles title on Sunday.
