Twitter Reaction: Canada celebrates Andreescu’s historic win at U.S. Open

Watch as fans at the Sportsnet Grill react to Bianca Andreescu defeating Serena Williams to win the US Open.

Bianca Andreescu ended her memorable run at the U.S. Open with a monumental win over Serena Williams in the final, earning the crown as the first Canadian to ever capture a Grand Slam singles title.

Canadians all across the country are taking to social media to celebrate the 19-year-old’s historic feat. Here’s a look at the best of Twitter’s #SheTheNorth outpouring so far:

Andreescu’s rise has been well-documented after winning the Rogers Cup and remaining undefeated against top-10 players in 2019.

She’ll now move to No. 5 on the WTA rankings, joining fellow Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, who became the highest-ranked Canadian woman back in 2014. Not too bad for someone who was ranked 243rd just last year.
