TGL Final Preview: Can Atlanta Drive GC stop red-hot New York Golf Club?

The stage is set for the TGL finale. 

After a pair of upset defeats in the semifinals, the best-of-three final series at the SoFi Center will feature the No. 4-ranked New York Golf Club — the hottest team in TGL, undefeated in its last four matches — against the No. 3-ranked Atlanta Drive GC. 

Here’s everything you need to know with the SoFi Cup on the line.

  • Best-of-three final series, with the winner becoming the first-ever champion of the SoFi Cup.
  • The first match takes place on Monday, March 24 at 9 p.m. ET. 
  • The second match will be played on Tuesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. ET and, if necessary, the third match will be immediately following, at 9 p.m ET.

Notes

  • New York versus Atlanta is a rematch of the third match of the TGL season when Atlanta defeated New York 4-0. 
  • Atlanta will have the honour both Match 2 and Match 3 (if necessary) because it won more holes than New York in the semifinals
  • Atlanta has been the strongest team in TGL in singles through 2025, with 23 points. It is first in strokes gained: total for the season
  • New York has not lost a match since starting the season 0-2, going 3-0-1 in their last four matches, including the semifinals
  • Since the third week of the season, New York has been the hottest team in TGL leading in a handful of important statistical categories including holes won, points won and strokes gained: total
  • Atlanta’s lineup will feature two of the top four finishers from Sunday’s Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour as Justin Thomas finished runner-up while Billy Horschel finished tied for fourth
  • Xander Schauffele will look to lead New York to the promised land after finishing T12 at the Valspar Championship — his best result of the season after needing to sit out for more than a month due to injury. He also led the field in strokes gained: approach at Innisbrook last week. 
  • The same golf course setup will be played for Match 1 and Match 3 (if necessary). There will be a different setup for Match 2.

Semifinals recap

New York Golf Club continued its impressive turnaround with a 6-4 defeat of the No. 1-ranked Los Angeles Golf Club to earn the first spot in the finals. 

Atlanta Drive GC topped No. 2-ranked The Bay Golf Club by an impressive 9-3 drumming to set up a date with New York, who they defeated 4-0 in their regular season matchup. 

Purse breakdown

Players are competing for a $21 million purse. 

The winner of the SoFi Cup receives $9 million (or $2.25 million per team member).

The second-place team earns $4.5 million. 

3rd: $2.25 million

4th: $2 million

5th: $1.75 million (Jupiter Links Golf Club) 

6th: $1.5 million (Boston Common Golf)

In addition to prize money, all 24 players have received a 10 per cent equity stake in the league, per Sports Business Journal.
