Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez was arrested and charged with attempted murder following an alleged shooting in Morgan Hill, Calif., on Monday that left one man injured.
The San Jose Police Department released Velasquez’s mug shot Tuesday morning, confirming the suspect is in fact the former two-time heavyweight champion.
According to the SJPD, one adult male was shot at least once before being transported with non-life-threatening injuries to a nearby hospital.
“The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation at this time,” a SJDP statement read.
Velasquez, 39, is being held without bail at the County of Santa Clara Department of Corrections housing facility, according to official Santa Clara County online records. A court date has been set for Wednesday afternoon.
TMZ Sports was first to report the incident.
Velasquez, who trained at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose alongside Daniel Cormier, Khabib Nurmagomedov and others, spent more than a decade competing in the UFC. He last fought professionally in 2019.
