The New Global Fight League has added yet another former UFC champion to its roster.
Tony "El Cucuy" Ferguson, an ex-interim lightweight champion, has signed with the MMA promotion, the GFL announced on Instagram Friday.
The 40-year-old is the latest former title holder to sign with the GFL, joining the likes of Tyron Woodley, Luke Rockhold and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua amongst others.
Ferguson was one of the more polarizing fighters in the UFC during the 2010s, but his UFC career has gone downhill recently.
After losing in May 2012, "El Cucuy" went on a 12-fight win streak that spanned nearly eight years, which included the interim title after he submitted Kevin Lee at UFC 217. He quickly became a fan favourite due to his exciting and unique fighting style, highlighted by the D'Arce choke and his psych-out move where he would pretend to "throw sand" at his opponents.
Ferguson's win streak ended in May 2020 when he lost an interim title bout to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249 and eventually ended his UFC tenure on an eight-fight losing streak.
