A middleweight bout between Kelvin Gastelum and Joe Pyfer was one of four new matchups added to the upcoming UFC Fight Night event in Mexico City, the organization announced Friday.
The event, scheduled for March 29 at the Arena CDMX, will be headlined by a previously-announced five-round flyweight matchup between former 125-pound champ Brandon Moreno and one-time title challenger Steve Erceg.
Gastelum, who will have his classic 2019 title fight with Israel Adesanya inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame later this year, is from California but has a Mexican heritage.
The experienced 33-year-old has won his past two middleweight contests and got his hand raised in two of his past three overall, beating Chris Curtis in 2023 and Daniel Rodriguez roughly eight months ago.
Pyfer, 28, is 4-1 in the UFC and coming off a knockout win over Marc-Andre Barriault in June.
A fan-friendly lightweight matchup between Manuel Torres and Drew Dober, a men’s flyweight contest featuring Ronaldo Rodriguez and Kevin Borjas, plus a women's strawweight fight involving Loopy Godinez and Julia Polastri were the other bouts announced.
Torres, Rodriguez and Godinez are all Mexican-born fighters and should all have the crowd on their side.
This will be the seventh UFC event held in Mexico City. The most recent was one year ago at the same venue, headlined by Moreno’s split decision loss to Brandon Royval.
