Jack Della Maddalena is still on the mend following his March arm surgery and has ruled himself out of the upcoming UFC 305 event in his native Australia.
The welterweight standout detailed on social media a lengthy list of health issues he has been dealing with following an initial surgery undergone 10 days after UFC 299.
Della Maddalena improved to 7-0 in the UFC with his third-round knockout victory over Gilbert Burns and did so despite breaking his arm in the opening round.
The 27-year-old from Perth explained he underwent multiple subsequent surgeries and will require at least one more “to remove further infected tissue.” He said one surgery earlier this week removed “infected tissue and unfortunately some infected bone.”
“Unfortunately this means I won’t be competing at UFC 305 in Perth,” Della Maddalena wrote. “Which is a tough pill to swallow. At the moment I am focused on recovery, Ridding (sic) my body of infection and allowing the bone to mend. planning to get my arm back to 100% which if all goes well will be in 12 weeks (sic) time. I am still motivated to compete before the years (sic) end in the fight I believe is the toughest and makes the most sense.”
Della Maddalena, currently the No. 5-ranked contender at 170 pounds, was one of three Australian UFC stars who attended the official UFC 305 announcement two months ago alongside former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and recent men’s flyweight title challenger Steve Erceg.
UFC 305 is scheduled to take place Aug. 17 (Aug. 18 local) at RAC Arena in Perth.
