LFA flyweight champion Jimmy Flick submitted Nate Smith at Dana White’s Contender Series to earn a UFC contract.
Flick put on a grappling clinic as Smith displayed impressive resiliency until succumbing to an arm-triangle choke in the third round.
Bantamweight Ronnie Lawrence had a dominant performance against the highly touted Jose Johnson to earn a unanimous decision victory, a UFC contract, plus some praise from Dana White himself.
“I think Ronnie Lawrence is special,” the UFC president said. “I think this kid is special. He expects big things from himself. I expect even bigger things from him. I think this kid is gonna be something so he’s in.”
William Knight handed Cody Brundage his first professional loss in their light-heavyweight bout. Knight overcame some bad positions early and picked up a first-round technical knockout win midway through the opening round thanks to several hard elbow he landed while defending a takedown along the cage.
Also on the five-fight card, featherweight Melsik Baghdasaryan and lightweight Tucker Lutz won unanimous decisions over Dennis Buzukja and Chase Gibson, respectively, but they weren’t given contracts.
