Islam Makhachev extended his winning streak to eight in a row with a dominant performance against Thiago Moisés in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night.
Makhachev submitted Moisés, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, with a fourth-round rear-naked choke to improve to 20-1 in mixed martial arts and 9-1 in the UFC.
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammate and protégé was ranked No. 9 in the UFC’s lightweight division heading into the event and is widely considered a future title contender at 155 pounds.
In the co-main event, Miesha Tate returned to the Octagon for the first time since 2016. The former women’s bantamweight champion finished Marion Reneau with a third-round technical knockout. Reneau, 44, had lost five consecutive bouts dating back to 2018 and announced her retirement from MMA following the bout.
Canadian Malcolm Gordon picked up his first win under the UFC banner on the preliminary card, snapping a two-fight skid by defeating Francisco Figueiredo on the scorecards. It was one of only two fights on the card that went the distance.
