• Matt Brown calls it a career, turns attention to helping other fighters

Matt “The Immortal” Brown announced over the weekend he won’t take another fight and instead will be turning his attention to helping other fighters in their careers.

The popular UFC welterweight, now 43 years old, ranks second in all-time UFC KO/TKO wins with 13 behind only Derrick Lewis’s 14. Brown began his UFC career in 2008 as a cast member of The Ultimate Fighter season seven and fought 30 times in the UFC, going 17-13.

Brown ended his fighting career on a relative high note, winning two of his final three outings with his lone loss being a contentious split decision in a Fight of the Night-winning performance against Bryan Barberena. That close defeat was sandwiched by knockout victories over Dhiego Lima and Court McGee, both of which earned him a Performance of the Night bonus.

The Ohio native ends his fighting career going 24-19 overall in mixed martial arts and earning notable victories over Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, Douglas Lima and Diego Sanchez.

“Also, I’m not using the word ‘retiring”’… I’m moving on to other things, not chilling in Miami golfing all day. That’s retirement. I’ll be working harder than when I was fighting lol,” Brown added in an additional social media post.
