Conor McGregor will be trying to avenge his recent loss at UFC 257 when he enters the octagon on Saturday for a highly anticipated rematch with fellow lightweight Dustin Poirier as a slim +100 underdog on the UFC 264 odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
McGregor suffered a second-round TKO loss to Poirier back in January, and will be facing the 32-year-old American for a third time in Saturday night’s bout at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
These two fighters first clashed almost seven years ago at UFC 174, with McGregor taking just 106 seconds to knock out Poirier and claim a Performance of the Night bonus. However, the tables were turned in their recent rematch, with Poirier dominating on his way to victory as a lengthy +245 wager at betting sites.
McGregor’s win over Poirier in their first meeting came amid his epic rise to the top of the UFC featherweight division. However, he has struggled to duplicate that success since moving to heavier weight classes, posting wins in just three of his past six outings, including a 1-2 record in three outings at 155 pounds.
Listed as a -120 favourite for Saturday’s main event, Poirier returns to action aiming to extend his current win streak to three fights. Poirier has suffered just one defeat in his past nine outings, a third-round submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a bid for the undisputed UFC lightweight title at UFC 242. However, the list of fighters he has beaten recently is impressive, and includes Max Holloway, Justin Gaethje, and Eddie Alvarez. In addition, Poirier has earned performance bonuses in seven of his past nine octagon appearances, including Performance of the Night honours for his victory over McGregor six months ago.
Earlier on Saturday, Stephen Thompson takes on Gilbert Burns as -170 chalk on the UFC odds. Thompson has overcome recent struggles with back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Geoff Neal and Vicente Luque, and will be aiming to win three in a row for the first time since 2016. Set as a +140 wager, Burns is on the rebound after seeing a six-fight win streak get snapped by a third-round TKO loss to Kamaru Usman in his recent bid for the UFC welterweight crown at UFC 258.
Elsewhere on the UFC 264 odds, Greg Hardy will try to bounce back from the first TKO loss of his career as he battles fellow heavyweight Tai Tuivasa as a +115 underdog. As well, Irene Aldana will clash with fellow women’s bantamweight Yana Kunitskaya as a slim -120 favourite, while bantamweight Sean O’Malley faces Kris Moutinho as a heavy -900 favourite.
