Michelle Waterson-Gomez announced the end of her 17-year mixed martial arts career at UFC 303 on Saturday.
The inaugural Invicta FC atomweight champion and 15-fight UFC veteran made the announcement following a one-sided unanimous decision loss to Gillian Robertson on the preliminary card.
At one point the No. 1 ranked 105-pound fighter in women’s MMA, Waterson-Gomez never reached championship heights at the UFC level but she did face elite competition throughout her UFC tenure.
She competed against past champions Rose Namajunas, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Carla Esparza and holds notable victories over Jessica Penne, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Angela Hill and Paige VanZant.
Waterson-Gomez, 38, had lost five consecutive fights and seven of her last eight outings.
