Former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler will be among the inductees into the UFC Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025, the UFC announced Saturday night.
Lawler, who retired from professional mixed martial arts in 2023, will be inducted into the Modern Wing, but the 42-year-old will technically become a two-time Hall of Famer after previously being inducted into the Fight Wing for his UFC 189 classic with Rory MacDonald.
“Robbie Lawler is one of the most badass athletes to every step inside the octagon,” UFC president Dana White said in an official press release. “Robbie was an absolute killer, and I have a ton of respect for his toughness and his fighting style, which helped grow the sport of MMA and UFC by attracting a lot of new fans. Robbie had an amazing career, and it will be an honour to induct him into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer.”
Lawler debuted in the UFC in 2002 in just his fifth pro fight. Between 2005 and 2012, Lawler competed for various organizations around the world including PRIDE, EliteXC and Strikeforce before returning to the UFC in 2013.
His second UFC tenure saw him become the best version of himself. He won the title in 2014 when he avenged a previous loss to Johnny Hendricks.
After defending the title against MacDonald and Carlos Condit, Lawler’s title reign was ended by Tyron Woodley in 2016.
Lawler went out on a high note, winning two of his last three bouts including a 38-second knockout of Niko Price in his final fight.
The 2025 UFC Hall of Fame ceremony will take place June 26 during International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
