The road to UFC 300 continues to stack up signature bouts.
A heavyweight bout between Tai Tuivasa and Marcin Tybura, as well as a lightweight battle of Thiago Moises vs. Brad Riddell are two of the showcase bouts on UFC Fight Night: Tuivasa vs. Tybura in Las Vegas on March 16, the UFC announced on Tuesday.
Tuivasa and Tybura were originally scheduled to square off at UFC 298, but was moved off of the card to become a headline bout.
Tuivasa (14-6) was beginning to turn heads since the turn of the decade, winning five fights in succession, and drinking a ton of beers out of shoes in the process. However, he underwent a three-bout losing skid, with his most recent loss coming when he was choked out by Alexander Volkov at UFC 293. The No. 8-ranked fighter in the division has finished all but one of his victories by KO, including his most recent win on a monster elbow knockout of Derrick Lewis at UFC 271 in 2022.
Tybura (24-8) is looking to bounce back after suffering a TKO from Tom Aspinall at UFC London in July 2023. The No. 11 heavyweight has an impressive 7-3 record in his last 10 fights.
As well, the UFC Apex event will be seeing a return of Riddell (10-4), who has been on hiatus from the octagon since late 2022. After winning seven straight fights since he debuted in 2019, the Kiwi fighter lost three in a row, leading him to announce he would be stepping away until "the fire to compete comes back."
It appears that flame is now burning, and he will look to get on track again against Moisés (17-7), who had two straight submission finishes over Christos Giagos and Melquizael Costa, before running into red-hot No. 11-ranked lightweight Benoît Saint Denis in September 2023.
