Arguably the UFC's greatest showman is set to make his return to the octagon after a near-three-year hiatus, but before he does, a stop on home soil will take place.
In anticipation of their UFC 303 main event, Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler will meet in Dublin, Ireland on June 3 for a press conference, the UFC announced on Friday.
What's sure to be an entertaining battle of words and wits, gets an added boost given it is in McGregor's home country. The former two-division champion hasn't fought since July 2021 and when he addresses fans at 3Arena in his hometown it'll be McGregor's first media appearance since stepping away three years ago.
Meanwhile, Chandler is no slouch on the mic either and will surely be itching to make a statement after not having fought since Nov. 2022. The No. 6 middleweight is coming off a grueling loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 that ended via submission. Chandler remains an exciting name in the division since his debut three years ago, but with a 2-3 record since his title chances have stagnated.
A dominant win over the UFC's biggest star could be exactly what he needs to re-kindle his championship aspirations.
UFC CEO Dana White first broke the news via social media, when he also announced that McGregor's fellow countryman Ian Garry would be fighting on the card. The undefeated welterweight will take on Michael Page, the No. 13 contender in the division, in what'll likely be a blockbuster addition to the UFC 303 main card.
The pay-per-view event will headline International Fight Week, set for June 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
