WINNIPEG — Jordan Yantz threw four touchdown passes as the Manitoba Bisons outslugged the Alberta Golden Bears 65-41 in Canadian university football action on Friday.
Yantz finished 14 for 19 passes for 215 yards and one interception as the No. 10 Bisons (1-0) stormed ahead with a 17-2 run in the third quarter.
Anthony Coombs ran for two TDs and 223 yards while catching another, while Andrew Smith caught two TD passes. Kienan Lafrance and Nic Demski also scored and Tyler Fong returned another off an interception. Nick Boyd added two field goals.
The loss ruined a spectacular night for Alberta quarterback Ryan Schwartz, who completed 32-of-46 pass attempts for 352 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Schwartz also ran in a TD of his own and finished with 150 yards rushing.
Aundrey Webster caught two TD passes while Tak Landry and Adam Zajdel also scored.
Elsewhere in CIS it was: No. 9 Saskatchewan 40, Regina 33.
Alberta (0-1) led just once when Stephen Fabian hit a 28-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead in the first quarter.
Just over a minute later Manitoba answered with Lafrance’s TD and never looked back.
Alberta trailed by only one point in the second after Webster caught his second TD to close the deficit to 25-24.
But Yantz found Coombs for a 37-yard TD pass and Fong intercepted Schwartz for a 75-yard return to the end zone. The Bisons scored once more with two seconds left on Demski’s TD and led 46-24 heading into halftime.

No. 9 Huskies 40, Rams 33
At Saskatoon, Mitch Stevens scored his third TD of the game in the fourth quarter to put the Huskies (1-0) ahead for good after the rival Rams (0-1) rallied to tie the game from a 33-7 deficit.
