Hockey Canada has appointed Kyle Dubas as the general manager of Canada's national men’s team for the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
The organization announced the news on Thursday. This follows Dubas’s role in helping Canada win the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament in February, where he served as director of player personnel. He is set to take on the same role for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Dubas, the current GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins and former GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, was also part of Canada's management team last year for the men's worlds, serving as associate general manager.
According to Hockey Canada, he will be supported by player relations advisor Ryan Getzlaf and senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations Scott Salmond.
Meanwhile, NHL executives Dennis Bonvie, Gregory Campbell, Andrew Cogliano and Jason Spezza will assist with evaluating and selecting players.
“Kyle is an excellent general manager, and his recent experience at the 4 Nations Face-Off and last year’s men’s worlds will be beneficial in building and leading Canada’s national men’s team as it looks to reclaim gold at the IIHF World Championship,” said Doug Armstrong, executive director of Canada’s national men’s team.
“Kyle has great relationships with players and staff throughout the NHL, and as a member of the management group for the 2026 Olympics, we are confident he is the best person to lead Team Canada in Stockholm and Herning this May while leaning on the expertise of Dennis, Gregory, Andrew and Jason.”
The world championship runs May 9-25 in Stockholm, Sweden and Herning, Denmark. The coaching and support staff and the roster will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
