After winning an Olympic gold medal, a WNBA championship, and getting married all in one year, maybe it's a good thing Sabrina Ionescu will be taking a break.
The New York Liberty star suffered a high-grade UCL tear in her right thumb during Game 4 of the WNBA Finals, and has had a procedure to address the issue, says ESPN's Alexa Philippou.
Surgeon Dr. Steven S. Shin performed the procedure and determined it a success. Ionescu is expected to return to the court in four weeks, and in the meantime, she has already started rehabbing her hand.
The procedure was performed on Friday, which also happened to be Ionescu's 27th birthday.
After suffering the the injury in Game 4 of the Finals on Oct. 18, Ionescu returned to play in Game 5.
She surprised fans with a 1-for-19 shooting performance in the championship game, but still contributed in the win with seven rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and a block.
