Team Sonnet takes down Team Bauer in PWHPA Dream Gap Showcase semifinals

Team Sonnet (Toronto) took down Team Bauer (Boston) in a close 4-3 decision to head to the final as the PWHPA Dream Gap Tour Showcase continued in Washington, D.C., on Friday night.

During the first period Team Sonnet took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Madison Field and Brittany Howard, despite Team Bauer goalie Brittany Ott standing tall and receiving third star honours for her efforts in the match.

Howard would strike again on a power-play goal to make it 3-0 for Team Sonnet in the second period, with Jacquie Greco netting what would be Team Sonnet’s fourth and final goal of the game taking a 4-0 lead over Team Bauer.

Despite Team Sonnet’s lead, Team Bauer continued to fight. Cat Quirion scored Team Bauer’s first goal in the second period to make it a 4-1 game, followed by a power-play goal from Alexa Gruschow to cut the deficit to two.

Sarah Lefort netted a goal for Team Bauer in the third to make it a one-goal game. Even with Ott’s stellar goaltending keeping Team Bauer very much in the game, they could not find another goal in the final minute with Ott pulled to send the game to overtime.

Team Adidas (Minnesota) and Team Scotiabank (Calgary) will face off next to determine who Team Sonnet will play in the final of the PHWPA Dream Gap Tour Showcase.
