A hand ball in the ninth minute of play offered Canada a chance to take the early lead on Wednesday at the World Cup against Belgium.
Unfortunately, when Alphonso Davies stepped up for the kick and struck the ball, his shot was not quite wide enough, allowing Belgian 'keeper Thibaut Courtois to make the save. Canadian teammate Jonathan David and Davies then both went for the rebound, but the shot went high and over the goal.
The foul was committed by midfielder Yannick Carrasco in the box off a corner kick by Canada's Junior Hoilett. Carrasco was also issued a yellow card on the play.
Canada would eventually fall to Belgium in a 1-0 shutout loss as the quest for the first World Cup goal continues.
