HALIFAX — Canada forward Colton Dach will be sidelined for the remainder of the world juniors after sustaining an injury in Saturday’s game against Sweden, the team announced on Sunday.
After colliding with Swedish defenceman Victor Sjoholm near the boards, Dach fell to the ice, favouring his right shoulder and arm. As play continued, he dropped his stick and crawled to the open door of the nearby Canadian bench. Dach went to the dressing room immediately and did not return.
Dach, a second-round pick by the Blackhawks, had two assists for Canada in four games. He is the younger brother of Montreal Canadiens centre Kirby Dach.
Owen Beck will take Dach’s place in the lineup. Beck was a second-round pick by the Canadiens in 2022 and plays for the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL.
Canada faces Slovakia in the quarterfinals on Monday.
