Sweden’s Elias Salomonsson has been suspended for one game of the World Juniors for checking Emils Veckaktins of Latvia from behind in game action Tuesday, the IIHF announced Wednesday.
The penalty occurred just 25 seconds into the game, with Salomonsson battling for the puck when he cross-checked Veckaktins into the boards. Salomonsson was issued a boarding penalty and a game misconduct.
Salomonsson, 19, will miss Thursday’s game against Germany.
Salomonsson, from Skelleftea, Sweden, was the Winnipeg Jets’ second-round pick, 55th overall, in the 2022 NHL Draft.
