Sweden has named its final roster for the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championship headlined by Edmonton Oilers defence prospect Philip Broberg.
The team will travel to Edmonton on Dec. 13 and play two pre-tournament games against Canada on Dec. 21 and Switzerland on Dec. 22.
Broberg, the eighth pick in the 2019 draft, has eight points in 23 SHL games with Skelleftea AIK. Other notable names on the roster include Alexander Holtz (New Jersey Devils, seventh overall in 2020) and Lucas Raymond (Detroit Red Wings, fourth overall in 2020).
The final cuts from the team’s training camp in Sundsvall were projected 2021 first-rounders Simon Edvinsson, Simon Robertsson, Vancouver Canucks’ prospect Viktor Persson along with Isac Andersson, Hannes Kollén and Daniel Ljungman.
Sweden has been hit hard by the novel coronavirus with Joel Ronnmark now serving as head coach for the team, replacing Tomas Monten. The team also had to cut William Wallinder, William Eklund, Karl Henriksson and Albin Grewe for COVID-19-related reasons.
