Bianca Andreescu's first match since the U.S. Open wasn't a step in the right direction.
The Canadian lost 6-3, 6-0 to world No. 95 Greet Minnen of Belgium in the first round of the Japan Open on Tuesday.
It was the fifth loss in a row for Andreescu, who has slipped to No. 163 in the rankings while battling numerous injuries since winning the U.S. Open in 2019.
Minnen saved all five break-point opportunities during the match.
The Belgian lost 6-1, 6-2 to Andreescu in their only other match at the 2021 U.S. Open.
