Canada's Leylah Fernandez lost 6-3, 6-4 against Jasmine Paolini of Italy in the second round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Tuesday.
The 33rd-ranked Fernandez, from Laval, Que., converted on just three of eight break-point opportunities against the 26th-ranked Paolini at the WTA Tour 1000 event.
The Italian won for the first time in four career matches against Fernandez.
Paolini will go on to face No. 8 seed Maria Sakkari of Greece in the round of 16.
