Never say never.
After months of rumours swirling about a possible return, CM Punk has stepped foot in the WWE Universe once again.
Punk returned after the team of Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Jey Uso and Sami Zayn were victorious in the WarGames main event against The Judgment Day and Drew McIntyre at Survivor Series on Saturday night.
Punk had not stepped foot in a WWE ring for nearly a decade. His last appearance for the company came at the Royal Rumble event in Jan. 2014.
In a post-show conference held by Paul "Triple H" Levesque, the Chief Content Officer for WWE, Levesque confirmed talks with Punk came quick, and dove into his explanation as to why the company rehired the superstar wrestler.
"It's been a long time, and in some ways, it's been a long time coming," said Levesque. "You can say this about CM Punk, love him, hate him, positive, negative … people talk about him, all the time.
"He’s a magnet for that... he's a conversation starter, and it's tough to look past that. And for me, if our fans want it… then let’s go, and we’ll figure out the rest of it from there."
Punk was recently employed by All Elite Wrestling from August 2021 to September 2023. He was released from the company after reports of a physical backstage altercation at AEW All In in August, which was confirmed by AEW President Tony Khan.
